Two inspirational business leaders, Georges Tannouri and Elie Tannouri, built their first company,
Shelter Contracting, into a 3 billion dollars net worth of projects. Today at Shelter Group, more than 40
years down the line with a staff force of approximately 1,000-strong and still growing, we stand apart in
the construction industry.
Back in 1971 when the two Lebanese engineers Georges Tannouri and Elie Tannouri first founded
Shelter Contracting. Their vision: “What our minds can conceive, we can achieve”. While it may have
seemed ambitious, the Tannouris’ vision became their trademark. Sharing a common goal of quality and
a passion for customer service, the two entrepreneurs established Shelter Contracting as a “one-stop
house”. No matter the scale, the complexity and the constraints of a project, Shelter Contracting would
have a unique set up allowing it to undertake large-scale and multi-activity contracts.
Since Shelter’s foundation, the opportunities encountered were big. Shelter took the challenge and
delved into the accelerating construction and development growth of the Middle East and Gulf Region.
In 1975, the privately-owned company headquartered in the United Arab Emirates; categorizing its
services under both Creative Design and Build and General Contracting.
With the business flourishing, Shelter Contracting expanded to have offices in Lebanon and France.
Commitment, passion and excellence distinguished Shelter from our peers; and soon we had
undertaken major turnkey contracts.
Shelter’s unique set up allowed us to add huge value throughout the infrastructure cycle of our projects
in the 1990’s. While strengthening our technical expertise in our areas of work, we developed a holistic
view of society and infrastructure. Our strong capabilities granted us the right balance of ingredients to
develop further to new markets. In few years, Shelter’s work touch a wide variety of sectors ranging
from major infrastructure projects (including roads, water, power & electricity) to distinctive residential
buildings, luxury residences, commercial buildings, institutional structures and social infrastructure.
