About Umm Salal Mohammed
Umm Salal Muhammed is a town located in the Umm Salal municipality of Qatar, roughly 21 kilometers north of Doha, the nation's capital. It is bordered by Umm Salal Ali to the north and Al Kharaitiyat to the south. It was founded around 1910 by Sheikh Mohammed bin Jassim Al Thani.
The town is notable for its historical landmarks, particularly the Barzan Towers, which were constructed in the late 19th century and later renovated in 1910 by Sheikh Mohammed bin Jassim Al Thani. These towers are positioned on the southern side of a defensive system created during the late 19th and early 20th centuries to guard the "rawdat," a valley.
Though one of the smaller municipalities in Qatar by size, Umm Salal Muhammed holds significant importance. Its name translates to "mother of rock," with "Umm" meaning mother and "Salal" referring to rocks or stones, reflecting its cultural and historical prestige.
