What we call ‘winter’ in Qatar is actually a pleasant spring-like weather. And what do we do during that time? We go camping! If you’re venturing out into the desert this camping season, here are a few things to remember and consider.
Location:
We have two choices when it comes to location; ones that need a special 4×4 car, and ones that don’t. Some popular locations include Al Wakrah Beach, Sealine, Ras Al Burooq, Fuwairit and Zekreet.
What to Bring:
The list of items to bring with you on a camping trip includes many things, but some specifics to remember when going on a trip include, tents, sleeping bags, cooler, first aid kit, sunscreen, toilet paper, flashlights and insect repellent.
What to Eat:
If you’re going to be grilling, then make sure you have all the equipment you need, in addition to the food you’ll be cooking. If grilling is not on the itinerary, then pack meals at home that won’t spoil in the weather; sandwiches and salads are a good idea, as are pastries and different types of snacks (s’mores anyone?). Remember, water, juices and beverages are essential!
Check Your Car:
Before heading out on your adventure, make sure your car is in good condition to handle the terrain. Check the brakes, tires, oil and water pressure for a safe and fun trip. You will also have to deflate your tires a little when entertaining the sand dunes.
Entertain Your Kids:
Make sure you bring toys and games for the kids to enjoy, including water-related games or items.
Fully Charged Phones:
Your phones will also serve as a GPS should it be needed, so make sure you have a fully charged phone and a portable charger as well.
While many choose to camp in the desert on their own, there are a number of camps that open their doors during the winter season, also called camping season, which will include all the comforts and facilities that you need.
