About Qatar Metro

Qatar Metro (The Doha Metro) is an automated rail network that forms the backbone of Qatar’s integrated public transport system. It runs mostly underground and is changing the way people move around Doha and its suburbs. 

Qatar Rail’s metro project started in 2019 and now serves most of the capital’s locations quickly and conveniently. Their underground and elevated metro system has eased the passengers. Metro service’s rapid growth makes it a superior option to private cars.

Qatar Metro Lines

Qatar Metro has spread its network and categorised its mero lines into phases 1 and 2. The operational phase consists of the Red, Green, and Gold Lines. However, the Blue line is in phase 2, which is under-planning and is estimated to be completed by 2027.   

The total planned network of Qatar Metro is 93km, out of which 76km is now operational. Following are the details of operational and under-planning metro lines available in Qatar: 

1. Green Line (Operational)

The Green Line, also named the Education Line, spans 22km – east from Al Mansoura to Al Riffa Mall Of Qatar. 

The education line features eleven operating stations, including Education City, Hamad Hospital, Al Shaqab, and Qatar National Library.

2. Red Line (Operational)

The Red Line, known as the Coastal Line, spans 40km from Al Wakrah to Lusail. It connects Hamad International Airport to the city centre. This metro line has 18 active stations, including West Bay Qatar Energy, Katara, and Qatar University. 

Moreover, the red line has interchange stations for all metro lines. It also provides interchange stations for Metro and Tram with Legtaifiya and Lusail QNB.

3. Gold Line (Operational)

The Gold Line, also named the Historic Line, covers a 22km radius from Ras Bu Aboud to Al Aziziya. Moreover, the historic line has eleven operating stations.

The Gold Line connects the Qatar National Museum, Souq Waqif, Sport City (for Khalifa International Stadium), and Al Aziziyah (for Villaggio Mall).

4. Blue Line (Under Construction)

The Blue Line, or the City Line, will cover 17.5km from Hamad International Airport Terminal 2 to West Bay. Moreover, the city line will have fourteen operating stations.

The Doha Metro is world-class in construction and safety, ensuring passenger security at every level. Qatar Railway has invested heavily in emergency planning and response measures. The guidelines for Qatar Metro Network Safety are:

  • A person must not abuse or threaten other passengers or use offensive language.
  • Do not place feet on seats or furniture.
  • Causing injury, discomfort, or nuisance is prohibited.
